Buckeye, Arizona - a thriving town and community all its own
You may not have heard of Buckeye, Arizona, but that won't always be the case. This booming town is rapidly growing - 2010 Census figures show that there was a 678 percent increase in population since 2000 - which makes for a distinct culture and exciting atmosphere.
New shopping centers, like the Sundance Towne Center, are testaments to Buckeye's thriving economy. Colleges and other educational institutes are actively surveying land for future campuses and there are even plans for a 900-acre lake for residents to enjoy.
There are also a number of private communities. Most prominent among these is the Del Webb retirement community, Sun City Festival, a beautiful, 3,100 acre neighborhood that sports all the latest in amenities and breathtaking views of the Estrella and White Tank Mountains.
Many local hotspots take full advantage of the sweeping vista. Homeowners can often be found dining at the Indigo Grille, where you can enjoy a glass of wine while taking in the magnificent WhiteTank Mountains.
For relaxation, residents have the opportunity to enjoy a resort-style pool or spend time at the 31,000 square foot Sage Center. Feeling a little more competitive? The Copper Canyon Golf Club has a course where the scenery is unparalleled.
If they feel like hitting the books, homeowners can choose to take classes at the Arizona State University Lifelong Learning Academy - visiting professors create customized courses for students and even take them on field trips.
Of course, you can always strike out on your own. The Buckeye Recreation Area is a popular spot for a day hike, and if you're more interested in a day out in a city, it's just a matter of hopping into the car and visiting Phoenix, the capital of Arizona.
