Awesome place to live
Our experience here at Del Wbb Charleston,SC has been exciting and very rewarding. Frienships have been formed, we have joined several clubs ie: Veterans Club, SOS, Cane Bay Players, Aerobics, Tai Chi, and workout with a Personal Trainer. We have taken advantage of Wendy's Walkers and trips with the WEGO's. There is so much to do that you have to be careful not to overload. Remember we are retired.

Overall, we love being in this community. We have more friends in our age group then we had before this. Our biggest disappointment is that there is no billiard table in "The Resort."

I am glad I made the move to Del Webb
There are a lot of activities for the residents plus it's a good way to meet others. The residents are very willing to help the newcomers with activities and recommend services. Everyone has been welcoming and friendly.
The proximity to Charleston is wonderful. There are many things to do in the area.
The clubhouse is a bit small for the number of residents and activities. As we grow, I see this as an issue.

Looks vs. Reality
Why do utility companies put facilities underground and then pepper everyone's estetics with above ground ugly green boxes, stupid yellow stakes and hideous pink tubes.
The houses and community are what they are, but the management group seems far less interested in maintaining the community than the residents do. Perjhaps a recent change in managers here will help.

Old People Rock
Most of us that move here have the same concern and that is we left family and friends behind. Those concerns are laid to rest 5 minutes after you move in. The people in this community become family instantly. There is not a door bell that you couldn't ring if you need help. Anyone could buy a house but it is the people in this community that help to make a house a home.

too much whiz and not enough bang
I am one of the first residents to come to DelWebb.
I have wonderful neighbors and have made good friends with several residents. I enjoy the outdoor activities and would like to see more thought given to adding another court for p-ball, possibly a basketball court even and a practice wall for tennis. Also, more attention given to the pool area, we are in need of shaded areas (pergolas, which were in original drawings shown to me when given sales orientation), more tablesw/umbrellas,a working water fountain in pool area(I have been here over 3yrs and still have not seen it functional for use!)I loved the waterfountain in the rear of amenities which has since been turned into a planter! To me that was a highlight to the center and gave it class. I would have like to been told when first moving here how difficult it would be communicating with Wentworth Mgmt. and the less than desirable behavior of the Pulte Mgmt. (previous directors who had been rude and condecending to the residents at meetings.) Fortuneately the people here now are better suited to the positions and I hope we can have a harmonious relationship and they will strive to make DelWebb a constant source of pride for all who have made it their home.

We are here to stay
We did our research on three Del Webb communities (Hilton Head, Charleston and Amberly Preserve in Cary) and we felt most comfortable with Del Webb Charleston. The DWC residents are very friendly and willing to help with useful information about DWC and the surrounding areas. You simply can't partake in all the community / resort activites that it has to offer.
In addition, Charleston is a wonderful walkable city that has a lot of suprises around every corner and neighborhood.

Review Headline
The community is very cliqueish. We heard a lot about the "pioneers" when we first moved in. It was like the Senior class telling the Freshman in a not so subtle way that they were in charge. There was not a lot of incentive to get involved in anything due to this.
We don't go to many onsite activities because we never know if we need tickets or not, and the idea that you can only buy tickets on a Tuesday evening is offputting. When we do go to non-ticketed activities, they are so crowded they aren't enjoyable.
As far as the actual house, the cabinets and appliances in the kitchen are cheaply made, there is not enough storage, and the lawn irrigation system in incomprehensible. The "seminars" seem to cover why we should water the lawn, not how to use the poorly designed interface to the system. We have a two story house and it is unclear to me why easy access to the area above the garage from the second floor was not designed into the house. I also dislike having the furnace in the "attic" area, and having a gas furnace in an otherwise electric house.

lovin' retirement
I am very happy with our move to Del Webb Charleston. We have met wonderful people and made great friends. We keep as busy as we want and love being out of the snow belt in the winter.
The only reason I gave the amenities a four is the fact I feel some of the areas are going to be too small in the future.

I would probably buy this product
Speeding is our main problem. Overall bad driving.
Problems with lot not adressed even after numerous contacts and complaints.
Events are over priced. When we first moved in events were priced affordably but now all events are to expensive. We do not need bands, catering etc. Keep it simple and have fun is what it should be. Clubs being chartered means rules and more rules. Example Softball at first a lot of fun now rules, leagues etc. Keep it simple have fun.

Del Webb Charleston Community Review
Regardless of the formula used to size The Resort (Amenities Center), this building is too small for the needs of this community. The residents of Del Webb Charleston are active and embrace many of the special programs, dinners, parties, groups and activities available only at the Resort. This also translates into club materials and supplies- there is a lack of adequate storage space. It cannot accomodate the residents now, and this will certainly become more problematic as the neighborhood is built out.

Our Dream Community
We moved into Del Webb Charleston when it first opened. It has been so exciting to see it grow and develop into the great place that it is to live. It is wonderful to know that we can count on our neighbors and friends here to help if there is ever a need or emergency. There is a love for life that shows in our residents, from playing tennis, pickleball, swimming, biking, dance classes, dog walking, and clubs for every interest. We wouldn't live anywhere else.

Activities Galore!
There is so much to do at Del Webb, making me wish I had retired 10 years ago. At age 75, I would like to see more sedate sports such as badminton, table tennis, cricket and other lawn games instead of tennis and pickle ball for the "young" folks.

"Clicks that rule the roost"
Not a grandchildren friendly environment. Too many clicks with the minority ruling on just about everything that happens or doesn't happen. HOA fees too high. Highest of any Del Webb community and we pay garbage seperately; in most communities this is included.
Too far from main shopping areas. Were told when we bought about stores that will be coming to area; only one did and I have my doubts if the others will ever be built.
When buying in a Del Webb don't believe everything the sales person tells you, they just want the sale and will tell you anything they think you want to hear.
NOTE: We lived in another community before coming to Summerville and had nothing bad to say about the place. Just do your homework because not all Del Webbs are the same.

What a great lifestyle!
We think that we made a very good choice when we chose DW Charleston. The amenities and activities keep us as busy as we want to be and promote an active and sociable lifestyle. We belong to several clubs, which we really enjoy. The activities at the Resort can fill your calendar.
We opted for Del Webb when we moved here, because we knew we would meet other people in the same situation. We have no family in the immediate area. We did not want to move into an established neighborhood where the neighbors might not want or need new friends, where they are busy with their own lives. Here, we just have to be careful to not overbook our calendar!
We also enjoy the proximity to Charleston and all the things this vibrant city has to offer. We are also enjoying exploring South Carolina.
It's a wonderful life...

Things I'd like to see:
This community needs the following:
1. A garden space
2. Room in the sitting room of the club house for a ping pong table and pool table. I never see people sitting at the chairs.
3. Classes held later in the morning. We're not all earlybirds.
4. Monthly trips to the ocean. For free

Great People
The people here are great. I enjoy some of the activities and friendliness of most of the staff. Being near Charleston is a big plus. I wish I had known how poor the amenities are. There is not enough rooms for the activities, the rooms are too small and the outdoor pool can get too crowded. Landscaping is poor and the pine straw gets all over and is dangerous. Also, if you ask for anything the typical answer is "do you want your homeowner's dues increased?" Again, the best is the people and being near Charleston.

Great Neighbors!
Too many things take too long to repair, like the indoor and outdoor pools. The spas have been in need of constant repairs. Too many events had to be cancelled this past year. Hopefully with the recent staff changes things will improve in the future. So far they're doing an exceptional job.
What we've enjoyed most are the neighbors. You couldn't ask for better neighbors!

Too many restrictions
I enjoy the friendliness of my Del Webb neighbors but find some of the rules here make our Del Webb lifestyle undesirable. We have 2 vehicles & a golf cart; the rule we can park only 1 vehicle in the driveway means my husband cannot have a hobby area in the garage. Ditto...the requirement that garage doors are to be kept closed. I find it highly ridiculous, since we OWN our property, including the driveway. There is an unpleasant atmosphere here that the "Del Webb police" (aka the covenants committee)is watching. Break a rule, pay a fine! We have lived here 5 years & would not have purchased had we known it would be so restrictive.

Formily communication from our previous property manager in my opinion was poor. I can tell things are being done and we are being kept informed. Thank you. I believe our monthly dues are too high especially when compared to other del webb communities. I would like to see a committee between residents and wentworth to evaluate costs.

Exactly what we were looking for!
We used the "somewhat satisfied" for only two reasons: 1) we think the resort needs to be larger as we do not think it will be large enough for over 900-1800 resident, and 2) we feel the $235 maintenance fee is higher than other Del Webbs that have more amentities.
We are extremely satisfied since moving to DW Charleston. It is exactly what we are looking for and the residents and neighbors are great. Having the surrounding area of Charleston available is second to none when considering things to do.

dont judge a book by its cover
I have been here since the beginning. Lots of changes since then. I dont like the new models as they are made cheaper and if I were to put my house on the market, how do I list it? I don't mind the lofts but I do not like the changes to the Bluffton kitchen. My kitchen is much better with more counter space and more cabinets. Please don't cheapen our wonderful neighborhood.

I love the indoor pool since the water temperature is finally up to 84 degrees.
The room for dances and parties is way too small for the number of residents.
The volunteers who create the clubs and committees are the best thing about the community.Without the volunteers the would be no lifestyle.

The lawn care is much below par. weeds and bad grass are everywhere. Pine straw is placed badly & the quality is horrible. The social committee is trying, but the same people run everthing and there should be changes in committees. the club house is lovely. The grounds are beautiful (around the resort and sales center). The neighbors in my area are wonderful and very caring. The folks at the desk are not always aware of what is going on. often there response to a question is "I don't know". It would be nice if equipment would be fixed in a timely manner. (i.e. the hot tub)
