Meet our full-time Lifestyle Director, Laurie Kortowich!
Laurie is a native of Western New York, and moved to Ohio to attend Baldwin-Wallace College with coursework in English Literature. Landing a job with a local fine-dining establishment, she fell in love with the restaurant business. Laurie spent 15 years with the family-owned operation, working all aspects of the hospitality industry. Specializing in off-premise catering and in orchestrating large scale events, Laurie gained valuable experience in communications, networking, and sales and marketing.
“I feel like I won the lottery when I came to Pioneer Ridge. This job is more fun that I could ever have imagined, and the homeowners in this community are some of the most genuine and interesting people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. At the Lodge, we are constantly seeking new ideas, new paths to explore, and new events to plan. The only complaint we hear is ‘There’s too much to do!’. To me, that’s the highest compliment anyone in this field could receive.”
Laurie lives in Avon with her husband, Todd, and their three young children, who are actively involved with school, sports, and church.

You can find all the necessities along Center Ridge Road. For additional shopping, Great Northern Mall, Midway Mall, and Crocker Park are within a few minutes drive. Tom & Terry Canavan
Terry Costanzo and Tom Canavan first met in the production of "Guys and Dolls" at West High School, Cleveland, in 1967. In 1968, Terry started work at Higbee's Downtown, and Tom as an apprentice lineman for the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company. A year later, Terry began work at the old Saint Johns Hospital in Cleveland, as a Nurse's Aid in the Intensive Care Unit. When the new Saint John West Shore Hospital in Westlake opened in 1981, she was transferred there, where she is currently employed as a “Biometrics Specialist”.
Tom and Terry were married in 1973 at Saint Rose Church in Cleveland. They have two daughters: Kerrie, who lives in Minnesota and Kelly, who lives in North Carolina. Tom retired in 2008 from the Illuminating/First Energy Company after 39 years, 10 months, 3 weeks, and 4.5 hours as a Lineman Leader. They moved from Lakewood to Pioneer Ridge in August 2009.
Bruce & Jennifer Barden
Bruce & Jennifer Barden met while working in Akron for The General Tire & Rubber Company and were married six months after their first date, 32 years ago. Bruce grew up in the Cleveland area and Jennifer grew up in the Akron area. Since then, they've moved from Akron to Columbus, to Mississippi, then to Sandusky, and Marietta, Ohio.
Bruce and Jennifer have two married daughters: Chris, a teacher living in Sandusky and Vicki, a fitness specialist living in Westlake. "Since our daughters and their families are here, we wanted to retire nearer to them so we could enjoy spending time with our families, especially our 3 grandchildren."
"We are excited about beginning our new 'retired' life at Pioneer Ridge. There are so many things to do we don't know where to start and look forward to making many new friends!"
Dick & Carol Luff
Dick and Carol met in 1998 while Dick was doing computer consulting work for Hickman & Lowder Co., L.P.A., the law firm where Carol worked. Dick eventually took a full-time position with the firm, and in the Spring of 2005 got up enough nerve to ask Carol to a baseball game. As Carol tells it, Dick showed up at her apartment wearing a baseball cap full of opening-day pins, a blue Tribe jersey, grey sweatpants and red shoes—and she went out with him anyway! The rest, as they say, is history.
Dick and Carol first visited Pioneer Ridge while taking a Sunday drive. They weren't really thinking about moving, but knew their two-bedroom condo was not large enough for their blended family. They really liked the Pioneer Ridge concept and everyone they met was so friendly. In November 2008 they signed a contract and said a prayer that the condo would sell. Their home was finished in April, the condo sold in May, and they moved in June 2009. "We feel truly blessed and think we're the luckiest couple on the planet. We found each other, we have a great family, and we live in the best development in America. We both still work at the law firm where we met, but we're looking forward to the not-too-distant time when we'll be able to spend our weekdays enjoying our neighbors and activities at The Ridge."
