John and Dorothy Dewan
Former New Jersey residents John and Dorothy Dewan searched nationwide throughout various age-qualified developments before finding the combination of home style and community they wanted at Del Webb’s Sun City Mesquite.
“I retired 10 years ago and around that time we began considering everywhere from South Carolina to Palm Springs to Las Vegas for our retirement destination,” said John Dewan. “Based on what we saw among the developments we looked at, we eventually confined our search specifically to Del Webb communities because of the obvious quality incorporated in their planning and design and their reputation for quality and service.”
“We also came to favor the Las Vegas area and when Pulte/Del Webb first opened their Anthem community about a decade ago, we considered buying then,” he continued. “However, at the time, we still had our two-family home back east, which we shared with relatives, so we decided to hold off for a while.”
Then, while visiting here in September of 2007, the Dewans decided it was time to make their move. “We went back to Sun City Anthem, which was then nearly completed, and while showing us the available homes, the sales associate mentioned that if we’d like more of a small-town feel, we might consider Sun City Mesquite, another active adult community being developed by Del Webb about 80 miles north,” Dewan said. “So we decided take a ride up there and as soon as we drove into Mesquite, we just fell in love with the town. It had an intimate feel, yet there were casinos, fabulous golf opportunities and so many other attractions and conveniences we knew we’d want close to home.”
“We also loved the entire Del Webb lifestyle within Sun City Mesquite, with such a great selection of homes, so many recreational opportunities, a beautiful community recreation center, lots of open space areas, views, the future golf course and so much more. At that point, we returned to Jersey, thought it over; and came back and bought our home in Sun City Mesquite.”
The Dewans, who live with Dorothy’s 97-year-old father, chose the Willow design at Sun City Mesquite. “We were first struck by the openness of the Willow design,” said Dewan. “It’s just perfect for us, with a roomy kitchen, open great room, spacious-feeling living areas and good separation between the master suite and the secondary bedrooms, which affords more privacy for us, for my father-in-law and for friends and relatives when they come to visit.”
Upon moving into their home, the Dewans were quick to take advantage of the many community amenities located within Sun City Mesquite. “We enjoy using the facilities at the community recreation center; attending the community events and partaking in the various activities available to residents,” he said. “There are so many things to do here and all within just minutes of our home.”
The couple was also pleased with the services they received from the Del Webb staff, and equally impressed by the energy efficiency of their home. “I have to say that the customer service we received was outstanding - - every step of the way,” Dewan said. “From the sales associates to the customer service people, we could always rely on all of them to get our questions answered and take care of anything we needed in a professional and timely manner.”
“As far as energy efficiency, we are super happy with our utility bills here. In fact, they are about half of what we were paying in New Jersey, which is a very significant savings. All in all, we are totally happy with our decision to buy our home in Sun City Mesquite and intend to enjoy living here for many years to come,” Dewan added.
John and Nancy Dury
During the 27 years they lived in Las Vegas, John and Nancy Dury knew that someday, they wanted to move to a place that offered more of a small-town feel than the ever-burgeoning Las Vegas area. In anticipation of John’s upcoming retirement, they began looking seriously and ultimately found just what they wanted at Del Webb’s Sun City Mesquite.
“We had made several trips to Mesquite over the past 20 years for weekend getaways,” said Nancy Dury, a licensed real estate professional. “We always loved the intimate size of this town and the relaxed and easy lifestyle here. Then, about two years ago, I was researching home builders online when I saw that Del Webb was introducing Sun City Mesquite,” she continued. “Shortly after, John came home one day and said, ‘We are putting our house up for sale, now!’. We immediately listed our home in Las Vegas and got our names on the interest list for Sun City Mesquite.”
“We attended two of the seminars and the more we learned, the more we fell in love with this community,” Nancy said. “As a real estate professional, I was familiar with Del Webb’s excellent reputation for building quality homes and communities. Once we saw the plans for Sun City Mesquite, we knew it was really going to be something special. It was everything we had been hoping to find, including the small-town ambience of Mesquite, the beautiful plans for Sun City Mesquite and pricing that was exceptionally competitive, considering the quality of the homes, the included features, and all of the on-site amenities. We felt very comfortable about buying a home here. In fact, the hardest decision for us was selecting our favorite floor plan design.”
“It was so refreshing to find a place like Sun City Mesquite,” said John, who is employed by the U.S. Department of Defense and anticipates retiring at the end of this year. “We loved living in Las Vegas for many years, but eventually grew tired of dealing with all of the traffic and construction. Mesquite is a great retirement destination. There’s a real sense of serenity here.”
“And the people here are so friendly,” John continued. “They greet you with a smile and a genuine interest in how you are doing. It’s reminiscent of what you would have experienced in ‘small town America’ years ago.” Nancy added, “Mesquite also offers everything we need on a daily basis within a short drive of our home, plus we’re only about an hour from Las Vegas and just a half hour to the north is Southern Utah.”
Along with loving their home, the Durys also appreciate the on-site community amenities. “We enjoy the trails and open space and the community recreation center is just magnificent,” said John. “We often use the facilities at the center and take part in several of the social activities as well. Del Webb has always built excellent communities but we feel that they have absolutely outdone themselves here at Sun City Mesquite,” he added.
The couple was also pleased with the services they received from the Sun City Mesquite staff. “We had excellent communication with the sales staff and with our superintendent throughout the entire process,” said Nancy. “In fact, everyone we dealt with was very professional, knowledgeable and concerned about our satisfaction as home buyers.”
“The day we were presented with the keys to our Sun City Mesquite home was especially emotional and exciting,” Nancy added with a smile. “We had moved to Mesquite! And now we tell everyone we meet how much we love it here. Our community center is beautiful and homey, our neighbors are the greatest and the entire community shares the same feeling.”
Dean and Jayne Higginson
Seven years ago, former Layton, Utah residents Dean and Jayne Higginson decided they’d “had enough of dealing with snow” and purchased a second home in the more favorable climate of Mesquite, Nevada. Over the years, they spent a considerable amount of time there during the winter months and enjoyed both the climate and the small-town ambience of the Mesquite community.
Upon deciding to make Mesquite their permanent residence, the couple wanted to find a larger floor plan and, about two years ago, began seriously looking at new homes throughout the Virgin Valley area, as well as Southern Utah. Ultimately, they found the home and lifestyle that suited their needs perfectly at Del Webb’s Sun City Mesquite community.
“We were impressed from the first time we drove into Sun City Mesquite,” said Jayne Higginson. “The open space areas were beautifully landscaped and the value for the money was the best we could find, considering the high quality of the homes and the vast community amenities.”
“We enjoy the lifestyle very much, taking advantage of the community recreation center, attending the various events held here and participating in many social activities. There is always something going on for residents here.”
The Higginsons chose the Marigold floor plan at Sun City Mesquite. “We love the openness of the Marigold floor plan,” Higginson said. “It has a spacious kitchen and a good-sized great room, which works great for day-to-day living as well as entertaining. The second bedroom offers the extra space we need when our children and grandchildren visit and it is on the opposite side of the home from our master suite, which provides enhanced privacy for everyone. It’s a home that works very well for us.”
The couple was also pleased with the services they received from the Del Webb staff.
“Everyone we dealt with at Sun City Mesquite was very professional, knowledgeable and responsive to any questions or requests we had,” Higginson said. “From the time we first walked into the sales pavilion, through our sales transaction, closing and beyond, they treated us as though they really appreciated us as customers.”
“Based on our experience,” she added, “we’re very happy with our decision to buy a home in Sun City Mesquite and would certainly recommend this community and Del Webb to others as well. It’s such a peaceful place to live!“
George and Ruth Plishka
About 10 years ago, former New Jersey residents, George and Ruth Plishka began looking for a home and community for their retirement years. Through their research, they considered many destinations across the western United States and also in Mexico. Having visited Las Vegas many times over the years, the couple liked the area and in 2002, they purchased a home here in Las Vegas. Not totally satisfied though, the Plishkas decided to once again begin searching for their “perfect home and community.” They ultimately found it at Del Webb’s Sun City Mesquite.
“We missed the small town ambience we had in New Jersey and also wanted a community that offered nice on-site recreational amenities such as a recreation center and various opportunities for social events and activities,” said George Plishka. “While living in Las Vegas, we had stopped in Mesquite many times on our way to visit the national parks in Southern Utah, so we became familiar with the feel of the town, which we liked very much.”
“Then, we heard that Del Webb was developing Sun City Mesquite and decided to go up and take a close look at what they had to offer. As soon as we drove in, the initial landscaping and the various plans for the community were quite impressive. Once we walked through the models, we were sold. Today, we’re enjoying our home and community immensely, including the recreational center, which is absolutely beautiful and offers so much in the way of activities and social opportunities.”
”Between my wife and I, we enjoy the yoga and cooking classes, tennis, outdoor and indoor pools, workout facilities -- you just couldn’t ask for more.”
The Plishkas chose the Aster design at Sun City Mesquite. “We liked the spaciousness of the Aster plan, the abundance of natural light and the entire layout of the home,” said Plishka. “It is the perfect size for us, plus we have the extra room we need when friends and family come to visit. It just struck us as the right home for our needs from the first time we walked through it.
”We also felt that the price of the Aster was extremely competitive, considering the quality of construction and the long list of included amenities and services offered by Del Webb,” he added.
The customer service the Plishkas received from the Del Webb staff was extremely impressive to the couple. “Everyone was helpful and responsive to our needs throughout the entire process of buying our home,” Plishka said. “They treated us incredibly well, kept us informed and were always proud to demonstrate the quality construction and energy efficiency features in the homes. In fact, we were even given an in-depth tour of our home while it was still under construction, so we could see, first hand, the kinds of materials and level of workmanship being incorporated behind the walls. We were very impressed by that, as well as all the additional services we received upon moving into our home and beyond. We have also been totally pleased with the way everyone we dealt with from Del Webb was always willing to ‘take that extra step’ to show how much they appreciated us as home buyers.”
“Based on our experience, we’re glad we bought our home here at Sun City Mesquite and would certainly recommend this community to anyone looking for a nice, energy efficient home, maintenance-free living and a very pleasant lifestyle.”
